Hand Woven Ponchos

Mexican. Elegant. Fairtrade.

About MOYANI

Moyani was born out of a profound love and admiration for Mexico and its traditions, people and culture.

Los Quexquemetl, more popularly known as ponchos, are artisanal and traditional garments with prehispanic origins. They represent fertility and connection to the earth, and woven into them are the stories and cosmovision of the native people.

Inspired by this textile legacy, Moyani ponchos have a modern and elegant touch that complement the original designs pedal-loomed by Gaspar Garcia and his family, natives of San Baltazar Guelavila in the central valleys of Oaxaca. The pedal loom is an ancient technique handed down from generation to generation that requires great coordination between the hands and feet to create unique patterns and designs. It is like a mindful dance that can go from hours to days for each individual piece.

Moyani strives to support the wisdom keepers of this ancient art and preserve the memory that is woven into the fabric of their rich cultural identity. Each poncho embodies something much more than a regular piece of clothing.

To wear a Moyani poncho is to honor a beautiful lineage and wrap yourself in its warm Mexican embrace.
